Chronicle of the Cid is a historical book written by Robert Southey in 1846. The book is a translation of the Spanish epic poem, El Cantar de Mio Cid, which tells the story of the legendary Spanish hero, Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, also known as El Cid. The book chronicles the life of El Cid, from his exile from Castile to his final victory over the Moors. The book is divided into three parts, each of which covers a different period in El Cid's life. The first part covers his exile from Castile and his subsequent battles against the Moors. The second part covers his conquest of Valencia and his establishment of a powerful kingdom there. The third part covers his final battles against the Moors and his death.Throughout the book, Southey provides a detailed and vivid description of the battles, political intrigue, and personal relationships that shaped El Cid's life. He also provides insight into the culture, customs, and beliefs of medieval Spain.Overall, Chronicle of the Cid is a fascinating and engaging account of one of Spain's most legendary heroes. It provides a unique perspective on medieval Spain and the struggles between Christians and Muslims during that time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
