Saki, pen name of Hector Hugh Munro, the prolific Scottish author of the Edwardian era, often referred to as the master of short stories and compared to O Henry and Dorothy Parker. is perhaps the most graceful spokesman for England's 'Golden Afternoon' - the slow and peaceful years before the First World War.
