Eschatology, that is, the study of the last days or end times is filled with speculation and controversy. Perhaps the biggest error in biblical interpretation of the end times is reading one's presuppositions into the text. Avoiding newspaper eschatology, this book provides honest answers from the Bible itself (Sola Scriptura). What does the Bible actually say about the timing and nature of the Second Coming? What is the rapture, the day of the Lord, the new heaven and new earth, the millennium, etc.?
God will not hold guiltless those who purvey foolish, ill-grounded speculations about so-called end time prophecy that perplex the faithful and hold up their Lord to the ridicule of the faithless. Might there be more pressing concerns than the church's crisis in eschatology dissected so meticulously by Charles Meek in this book? Perhaps. But Christian leaders must face honestly-and resolve with clarity-what has emerged in our day as a major embarrassment to the faith. Meek does much more than sound a needed alarm. He brings us back ad fontes to recover a truly biblical and apostolic understanding of fulfilled prophecy. Rightly divided, the word of God does not confuse; it coheres and liberates. Meek's book adds significantly to the emergent body of study pointing to the power of a realized and covenant-grounded grasp of the immensity of Christ's victory. This is what must be recovered.
