China Clay is a novel written by Trevor Blakemore and published in 1922. The story is set in the English countryside and revolves around the lives of two families, the Carne family and the Bolitho family. The Carnes are a wealthy family who own a china clay business, while the Bolithos are struggling farmers. The story explores the complex relationships between the two families and the tensions that arise due to their differing social and economic statuses. The novel is primarily a family saga, tracing the lives of the two families over several generations. It delves into themes such as love, class, and ambition, and portrays the struggles and triumphs of the characters as they navigate their way through life. The story is also a commentary on the changing social and economic landscape of England during the early 20th century.Blakemore's writing style is descriptive and evocative, bringing to life the lush landscapes of Cornwall and the gritty realities of the china clay industry. The characters are well-drawn and complex, each with their own motivations and flaws.
