Chimmie Fadden, Major Max and Other Stories is a collection of short stories written by American author Edward W. Townsend. The book includes several humorous and entertaining stories that depict the life and experiences of working-class Americans in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The title story, Chimmie Fadden, follows the adventures of a young Irish-American boy who lives in New York City and gets into trouble with the law. Other stories in the collection include Major Max, which tells the tale of a retired army officer who becomes a private detective, and The Man with the Black Feather, which features a man who is haunted by a mysterious black feather.Throughout the book, Townsend's writing style is characterized by his use of dialect and slang, which adds to the authenticity of the characters and their experiences. The stories are often humorous, but also touch on serious themes such as poverty, crime, and social inequality.Overall, Chimmie Fadden, Major Max and Other Stories is a charming and entertaining collection of stories that offers a glimpse into the lives of ordinary Americans during a fascinating period in history.1895.
