Chimaira: The New Artillery, Or, Medicinal Battery is a satirical political allegory published anonymously in the 18th century. This work employs elaborate metaphors and allegorical language to dissect the political landscape of its time. The pamphlet ascends gradually toward a definition of the High-flyer and the Low, presenting a critical commentary on societal divisions and political maneuvering. The author utilizes the fantastical image of the Chimera to explore themes of power, influence, and the volatile nature of political alliances.
This essay, De Arte Volandi, reflects a period of intense social and political debate. Its enduring appeal lies in its clever use of satire to expose the follies and vanities of those in power. A valuable resource for scholars of 18th-century literature, political history, and the art of satire.
