Chiaroscuro, derived from the Italian words for light (chiaro) and dark (osuro), refers to a technique in art that uses strong contrast between light and shadow to create a sense of volume, depth, and drama. This book examines Rembrandt's influence on Napoleon Esteban's work.Chiaroscuro originated during the Renaissance, a period marked by the flourishing of art and intellectual thought in Europe. Artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Caravagglo, and Rembrandt mastered technique. Esteban was most impressed by Rembrandt's subtle gradations which created psychological depth and evoking powerful moods.
