A History of Ancient Chinese Opera Aesthetics is a scholarly work that systematically organizes and explores the aesthetic thought of classical Chinese opera and its developmental patterns on the basis of extensive documentary sources. This monograph focuses on the aesthetic concepts, categories, and theories related to Chinese opera across different dynasties. It offers a systematic discussion of the evolving aesthetic thought-from the primitive aesthetic concepts associated with folk shamanistic dances, songs, and comic performances in ancient times, to the various aesthetic ideas that emerged in regional operas of the Qing dynasty up to the period around the Opium War in the mid-19th century.
