1949年考入蘇南新聞專科學校,後參加土改工作。1954年,她以江蘇省高考第一名的成績考入北京大學中文系新聞專業,才華橫溢,積極參與校園文藝活動,被稱為紅樓里的林姑娘。
1957年,林昭因在北大發表批評性言論和參與自由思想討論,被划為右派分子,遭到處分。她拒絕低頭,甚至嘗試自殺以示抗議,但被搶救。
1959年,她在上海參與籌辦民間地下刊物《星火》,發表長詩《海鷗之歌》等作品,批判時弊。
1960年,《星火》成員被捕,林昭也被逮捕入獄。
在獄中,林昭堅持不認罪,多次絕食、自殺,並用血在被單上寫作,留下約二十萬字的血書,內容涉及對極左路線的批判和對自由的追求。
1968年4月29日,林昭被以現行反革命罪槍決,年僅36歲。臨刑前,她留下血書《歷史將宣告我無罪》。
林昭的經歷反映了特定歷史時期知識分子的悲劇命運,她的堅持與抗爭為後世人們所敬仰。
