●第一章／看人評事 多標準●
當我第一次看到如下詩句 丈夫隻手把吳鉤，意氣高於百尺樓。一萬年來誰著史，三千裡外覓封侯。 就聯想到唐代詩人李賀（790-816）的：男兒何不帶吳鉤，收取關山五十州？請君暫上淩煙閣，若個書生萬戶侯？ 猜想此等意境豪氣一定出於某個歷史上大大有名的英雄文豪，沒成想居然是李鴻章（1823-1901），名字當然是如雷貫耳，但決不是人們心目中的英雄豪傑，小時候接受的教育正相反，清末各種賣國不平等條約大多是他秉承慈禧太后（1835-1908）懿旨簽訂的，妥妥的大賣國賊！
過去出現的人和事，或許言行不一，或許因果複雜，但其行為表現、事件演變是唯一的，可是評價解釋則千變萬化，因人隨時會有天翻地覆般的不同。但是作者還是勉為其難地給出自己比較認可的評價人類活動和重要人物的幾個標準：
一、生命寶貴。無論個人群體、還是動植物，不應有過多的無謂的犧牲（包括降將戰俘奴隸等）、宰殺或砍伐。所以，鋒利、遠距離、大殺傷力的武器研製、不當使用可以說是人類社會野蠻的殘留；而珍惜動植物和個人生命，以及研製防範殺傷和治病救人才是文明的方向。
