作者玄心出生于四川大山，守着泉水、泥墙与石头长大。升学关口曾被制度与名额卡住，阴差阳错，进入重点高中；后来，一步步走进北京顶尖工科大学的校园，曲径通幽领悟艺术之美，再从看似走不通的路上渡海进入新加坡-麻省理工联盟（Singapore-MIT Alliance），在更广阔的课堂里把数学与工程读成一种语言。此后他亲历中国早期互联网，走进网易；又在华尔街白天做量化金融，晚上在地铁唱歌流浪；再到硅谷，在谷歌、优步与甲骨文等公司参与工程与云计算项目；直至生成式人工智能浪潮涌起，他仍站在产业核心现场，却开始被同一个问题反复击中：当机器学会推理，人还剩下什么？

书名来自他多年前在网易创始人丁磊办公室里看到的一幅字：云层之上无风雨。那时，它像一句承诺：只要技艺足够深、事业足够高，人也许就能抵达没有风雨的地方。许多年后，当他站在金融、硅谷与人工智能系统内部再回头看，这句话有了更复杂的意义-云层之上或许无风雨，人心深处却仍是归途。
