You can checkmate chess bots - not all bots, and not all the time. But as a human player, you can beat some chess engines - IF these programs don't operate at full capacity.
This book gives 30 examples of games that I won against chess bots on chess.com in 2024. All my opponents were rated 2000 up to 2660. I didn't beat Stockfish or Magnus.

I'm an old man in my 70s. I don't operate at full capacity either since I am long past my prime playing years. But if I can have fun playing chess bots, I think you can too!
Chess.com offers a wide variety of bots. These bots range from beginners to intermediate to advanced to masters to grandmasters to the top players in the world. Many players or personalities have bots that mimic their styles.
