A source of income for some and a biological reserve for others, Cameroon's commercial forests are the subject of fierce competition over access rights and the exploitation of their wildlife resources, despite the introduction of a legal framework tailored to the context of sustainable management. This book outlines the efforts made in forest management in Cameroon since the Act of 20 January 1994 and subsequent legislation, and in particular its limitations regarding the protection of wildlife. It aims to clarify the specific requirements for managing this wildlife in line with changes introduced by certification. It highlights the contributions of private certification as a tool for promoting forest management, and above all for the protection of wildlife in production forests. A fundamental idea runs through the entire book: the weakness of the State's contribution to its sovereign duties of monitoring and controlling the management of wildlife resources in particular. Hopes are currently pinned on FLEGT, a government certification scheme, to complement private certification for the sustainable protection of wildlife.
