Jonah, a virtuous man with the ability to interpret divine messages, is commanded by the Divine to deliver a warning to the city of Nineveh. However, Jonah ignores the decree and boards a ship to escape his fate. A violent storm strikes the ship, and Jonah confesses that he is the cause. The terrified sailors throw him into the sea, where a giant sea creature swallows him. Inside the creature, Jonah prays for three days and nights, promising to fulfill his duty if he is saved. On the fourth day, the creature spits him out onto the shore. Grateful for his miraculous deliverance, Jonah heads to Nineveh and warns its inhabitants of impending disaster. The people of Nineveh repent and ask for forgiveness, which the Divine grants. Having accomplished his divine mission, Jonah returns home, and his remarkable journey and impact on Nineveh become a legendary tale passed down through generations.
