What if Little Boy Blue could reach the Man in the Moon? David, a broody graduate student, stumbles into an imprudent marriage proposal just before learning of his estranged father's fatal illness. David forces a reckoning with their shared legacy of strained distance, his last chance to bridge the gap between them. Against a backdrop of a family barbecue marred by conniving aunts, a sabotaging son-in-law, a hostage situation, an alcoholic relapse, a bloviating uncle, an ill-timed poker game and one solid right cross, can David come to terms with his father (and his fiancé), and find his own way forward? Cats in the Barbecue, a family drama with an undercurrent of irreverent humor, explores relationship dynamics between fathers and sons and the meaning of masculinity in today's America.
