A Case of Bad Blood

Penelope Bridges has traded city life for something far more interesting - house-sitting her way around the world, one meticulously managed property at a time, courtesy of Perfectly Proper Placements.

Her latest assignment? A twelve-thousand-acre cattle ranch in the shadow of the Tetons, with horses, goats, and one highly intelligent pot-bellied pig named Truffles.

Truffles has two goals in life: find the sunniest spot on the porch and eat everything in his path to get there. The goals of at least one new acquaintance, however, are considerably more dangerous.

When the ranch owner's charming, reckless son rides out one morning, and only his horse comes back, the news that follows is grim. A riding accident, they say. Thrown from his horse on a remote trail. Except Penny has noticed something that nobody else seems troubled by: the injuries don't quite match the story.

The foreman is loyal to a fault. The niece is sharper than she lets on. The neighboring rancher has grievances that go back further than anyone will admit. And Truffles, entirely unbothered, has found his sunny spot and isn't moving for anyone.

Penny has a color-coded spreadsheet, a very organized mind, and a nagging suspicion that the killer is sitting at the dinner table with her.
