Months, not years.
Those are the words you never want to hear associated with your best friend's life, your precious pet.
The moment you realize the time you have left together may soon come to an end, your heart shatters. The news feels shocking, jarring, tragic, almost surreal. And decisions must be made-painful, scary choices about your pet's health.
You may be desperate to do everything in your power to beat the odds. Confronting reality with a hopeful heart while also wanting to know what to expect, you scour the internet, obsess over your options, and lay awake at night second guessing, believing there has to be a better way.
Alli and her husband faced many of these struggles and fears when their dog, Kingsley, was diagnosed with cancer. Understanding what it's like to feel overwhelmed and alone as you search for answers to aid your pet, she aims to shed light on the human element of what it means to walk this path with your best friend-including the difficult decisions, the small wins along the way and the unconditional love that makes it all worth it.
Read Caring for Kingsley: Believing in a Better Way When Canine Cancer Comes Crashing Into Your World to learn from Alli's experience as you navigate critical decisions surrounding your pet's care.
Editorial Reviews:Caring for Kingsley is a heartfelt testament to the all-consuming and all-powerful love and dedication between a dog and his humans. Kingsley left permanent paw prints on the hearts of everyone he met.
-Shannon Wessel-Calbrix (Leska), DVM, CVA, CVFT
If you're wondering what it's like to help your beloved dog who has cancer, read this book.
To be completely honest, I was a little afraid of reading Kingsley's story. Over the past eight years, we lost all of our three dogs to cancer - including a two year old puppy.
But I fell in love with Kingsley, a very special pup, and began to wish that this book was available to me much earlier when I was helping my dogs or even before we got our first dog.
There are other books that describe how to help dogs with cancer, but they don't tell half the story. So much more happens in real life.
Kingsley was a small dog so he had a lower risk of getting cancer (unlike larger breeds like great Danes or our golden retrievers.) So the family was especially shocked and devastated by his diagnosis.
Kingsley's mom shares a deeply personal account of their journey: what she went through emotionally as she faced a myriad of choices to help Kingsley.
It's a well-written book and easy to read. You'll read about selecting conventional and alternative treatment options, exploring different diets, trying to maintain sanity as you face setbacks, and seeking signs of hope. And finally, trying to decide when it's time to say goodbye.
It is not a 'how-to' book, but you end up learning so much.
It's hard to think of another book sharing intimate details of a cancer journey.
It's heartbreaking, but I think it's a must-read for anyone with a dog.
