Captain Cook's Voyages of Discovery is a historical account of the three voyages made by Captain James Cook in the 18th century. The book, originally published in 1920, is a compilation of Cook's journals and other primary sources, edited and annotated by historian W.H. G. Kingston. The first voyage, undertaken in 1768, was primarily a scientific expedition to observe the transit of Venus and to explore the Pacific Ocean. Cook and his crew sailed to Tahiti, where they made astronomical observations and established friendly relations with the local people. From there, they sailed to New Zealand, charting the coastline and making contact with the Maori people.
