Camping And Character: A Camp Experiment In Character Education is a book written by Hedley S. Dimock that explores the relationship between camping and character development. The author argues that camping provides a unique environment for young people to learn important life skills and values, such as responsibility, independence, teamwork, and respect for nature. The book is based on an experiment conducted at a summer camp, where Dimock and his colleagues implemented a character education program that focused on four key areas: self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. The program included activities such as hiking, canoeing, and group discussions, as well as individual reflection and goal-setting exercises. Through this experiment, the author demonstrates the positive impact that camping and character education can have on young people's development, both in the short-term and long-term. The book provides practical advice for camp counselors, educators, and parents who are interested in promoting character education through camping. Overall, Camping And Character is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the intersection of outdoor education and character development, and provides a compelling argument for the importance of experiential learning in shaping young people's values and behaviors. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
