Camille Desmoulins And His Wife: Passages From The History Of The Dantonists is a historical non-fiction book written by Jules Claretie and published in 1876. The book tells the story of Camille Desmoulins, a French journalist and revolutionary who played a significant role in the French Revolution, and his wife Lucile Duplessis. The book explores the lives of Camille and Lucile during the turbulent times of the French Revolution, when they were both actively involved in the political and social upheaval that was taking place in France. The author provides a detailed account of the events leading up to the fall of the monarchy and the rise of the revolutionary government, including the Reign of Terror and the execution of King Louis XVI.The book also focuses on the role of the Dantonists, a group of revolutionaries led by Georges Danton, who were opposed to the radicalization of the Revolution and the excesses of the Jacobin regime. Camille Desmoulins and his wife were both associated with the Dantonists and were ultimately arrested and executed for their involvement in the movement.Overall, Camille Desmoulins And His Wife: Passages From The History Of The Dantonists provides a fascinating insight into the lives of two of the key figures of the French Revolution and their struggle to bring about a more moderate and humane form of government during a time of great upheaval and violence. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
