April 1818. War-torn Venezuela.
Captain THOMAS DE RENOVALES, a veteran of the brutal Spanish Peninsular War (1808-1814) now fights to preserve the sovereignty of king FERDINAND VII in the Provinces of Venezuela. His mission: infiltrate the rebel camp and assasinate the leader of the independence movement -SIMÓN BOLÍVAR. But his uncle, Field Marshal MARIANO DE RENOVALES, exiled in London, has pleadged his loyalty to BOLÍVAR and the cause of Liberty. As blood ties collide with political allegiance, Venezuela becomes the stage for a deeper war - between past and future, obedience and rebellion. BURNTZ is a gripping historical novel of espionage, fractured loyalty, and the final echoes of Spain's crumbling empire.
