This is a newly typeset edition of the Breviarium. A breviary is a liturgical book used in Western Christianity, particularly within the Roman Catholic Church, Anglicanism, and some Lutheran churches, for reciting the canonical hours, also known as the Divine Office or the Liturgy of the Hours. It contains the complete cycle of daily prayers and readings, including psalms, hymns, prayers, antiphons, and readings from Scripture and the Church Fathers.
The Breviarium provides a structured format for daily prayer, enabling clergy, religious orders, and lay individuals to participate in the Church's universal prayer life. Each day is divided into specific hours or offices, such as Matins (or Vigils), Lauds, Prime (discontinued after Vatican II), Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline. Each office has its own set of readings and prayers appropriate for the time of day and the liturgical season.
