HORROR WAITS IN THE SHADOWS OF THE TREES . . . Huddled deep in the primeval Maine forest, the sleepy village of Foxblood Falls has a dark secret. Zacharias Corbitt, one of its founders, kidnapped young women he fancied and offered them up as blood sacrifices to the dread goddess the local Indians called She-Who-Walks-in-Thunder - a malign entity known by an older and more terrible name in the fiendish Necronomicon of Abdul Alhazred. Caught in the act during his latest sacrifice, Corbitt was lynched and his body secretly buried. But he was a far-seeing man, and he had made plans for his eventual return - and revenge . . . Dr. Susan Clayton and Nurse Amanda Leigh Cole share a dark secret too - one which could destroy them. While vacationing in Foxblood Falls, they are shocked when a new wave of kidnappings sweeps through the townsfolk. Incredibly, every clue of these disappearances points to Zacharias Corbitt - as does the mysterious skeleton they discover walled up in a secret room of Corbitt's mansion; a skeleton with a stake driven through its ribs. As the bloody net of Corbitt's long-planned vengeance sweeps them in, Susan and Amanda are threatened with the exposure of their secret. Yet that menace is swallowed up by Corbitt's ghastly plans for them - and for the world . . . BONES is a novel of Lovecraftian horror - but told in a way Lovecraft never dreamed of! Although set in 1927, it features several modern twists that will keep the reader guessing - until the terrible truth is finally unmasked . . .
