Black Ivory is a historical novel written by Norman Collins. The story takes place in the 19th century and follows the journey of a young boy named Hamid, who is taken from his village in Africa and sold into slavery. He is then transported across the sea to America, where he is sold to a plantation owner in the South.Hamid is forced to work on the plantation alongside other slaves, enduring harsh treatment and abuse from his masters. Despite the cruelty he faces, he never loses hope and remains determined to escape and find his way back home. The novel also explores the lives of the plantation owners and their families, as well as the politics and social issues of the time, including the abolitionist movement and the Civil War.As the story unfolds, Hamid's path crosses with those of other characters, including a young woman named Charlotte, who is sympathetic to the plight of the slaves and becomes an important ally in Hamid's quest for freedom.Black Ivory is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that sheds light on the brutal reality of slavery and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of oppression. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
