Big City Spirit; Small Town Heart is a collection of poems stitched together from real life: Love and loss, motherhood and memory, politics and protests, the softness of a snow-lit night, and the sharp edges of a world that too often asks women to carry it all. These poems come from the classroom, the kitchen, the driveway at 6 a.m., from the small towns that raised us and the big-city dreams that keep us moving.
This is a book about love in all its forms. The kind that fills a house with noise and warmth, the kind that curls into your bed at 2 a.m., the kind that stretches you thin and still asks for more. It's about the way a heart can be overflowing and aching at the same time. It's about the small-town girl you used to be, the woman you are now, and the silvery string that ties the two of you together.
It is also a book about life in a world that feels heavier by the day, where politics seep into your bones, where cruelty flashes across screens, where you feel the pull to speak up even when your voice shakes. These poems don't look away. They name what hurts. They name what heals. They honor the fire it takes to stay soft.
Every page is a snapshot: snow lighting up a dark winter street, a childhood kitchen you can still smell, a partner's hand you reach for in the quiet, the echo of your parents' laughter, the familiar ache of wanting just ten minutes to yourself. They are moments pinned like Polaroids to a life lived fully, fiercely, imperfectly.
Big City Spirit; Small Town Heart is a love letter to the woman you've become and the girl you still carry. It's a reminder that even in the chaos, even in the heartbreak, even in the loudness of a life where you're never alone, you are still allowed to be tender. You are still allowed to be whole. You are still allowed to shine.
This book holds the fullness of a woman who is a mother, a teacher, a partner, an advocate, and still somehow a whole human trying to remember her own breath. It is a love letter to the people who shaped you, a shout against the systems that try to silence you, and a reminder that even the busiest, loneliest hearts deserve softness.
Big City Spirit; Small Town Heart is for anyone who has ever lived at the intersection of hope and exhaustion, laughter and grief, fear and fury, resilience and tenderness. It is a book about life as it really is: messy, political, holy, heartbreaking, bright...and the stubborn, beautiful spirit that carries you through all of it.
