Many years of hard study of the manuscripts and of the Bible
text are behind these quotations from Beck's translation of the
Bible.
Dr. Beck asked the question: What does God want in a Bible
translation? The first answer, which every Christian knows, is
that God wants us to have an accurate Bible. It should be more
accurate than the translations of today. From such a fresh
translation, absolutely loyal to the manuscripts and the original
text, come the passages in this book. You can trust them.
On each topic we can gather a mass of Bible quotations not
all of which are equally clear and direct in answering our questions.
Many hundreds of Bible statements were examined most
thoroughly to select those that will help you most effectively.
4. God is speaking your language.
There's a second answer to the question: What does God want
in a Bible translation? God wants to talk to our hearts. Dr. Beck
has put his life into the job of giving us such a Bible. How well
he has succeeded you can tell from a test consisting of 67 passages
submitted to 60 Detroit pastors. Without knowing which
translation they were voting for, they gave his translation a vote
of 3,858 over against 162 for the RSV. It was the conviction of
these pastors that the passages as you have them in this book
are in the language of our hearts. They are in the crisp language
of today and tomorrow because our Lord wants to talk that way.

When you try to get a truth from a difficult wording ex
plained by commentaries and pastors, you lean too much on
others to have an independent conviction. But when God speaks
