Beneath Our Roof is a heartwarming memoir written by Louis Paul Lehman Jr. that chronicles his family's experiences living in a large, old house in rural Pennsylvania. The book is a nostalgic and charming account of Lehman's childhood, filled with vivid descriptions of the house and the surrounding countryside.Lehman's story begins with his family's move to the house in the early 1950s. The house, which had been built in the 1800s, was in need of significant repairs and renovations. Despite the challenges of living in an old and sometimes unpredictable house, Lehman describes his childhood as idyllic. He and his siblings spent their days exploring the woods and fields around the house, playing games, and enjoying the simple pleasures of rural life.Throughout the book, Lehman shares stories of his family's experiences in the house, from the time they discovered a hidden room in the attic to the many times they gathered around the fireplace on cold winter evenings. He also reflects on the relationships he had with his family members, particularly his parents, who instilled in him a love of nature and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life.Beneath Our Roof is a beautifully written memoir that will resonate with anyone who has fond memories of growing up in a close-knit family. It is a celebration of the joys of childhood and the enduring power of family bonds, as well as a tribute to the beauty and resilience of old houses. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
