It has been observed generally that marriages face a lot of affordable challenges in our society today. The crises do not respect race, colour, creed, language or faith. Some marriages barely lasted one week from the date of their consummation. Even the ones that have lasted decades, with grandchildren as evidence of such union, are not free from break-ups. Our courts are inundated with requests of divorce and the spiritual leaders are tired of settling quarrels between couples.
Researches have shown that if two people of different esteems marry, there will always be conflict between them. In other words, when a high self-esteem marries a low self-esteem person, there will be conflict of interest. Shiv Khera observed in his book, 'You can win', Where the value system is conflicting, people cannot live in the same home or work in the same organization. Emphasis has always been on biological compatibility. Much consideration has not been given to classes of esteems in the choice of marriage. When you notice that a couple fights bitter over minor issues that could be overlooked, then, be sure that test of ego has crept in. What it simply means is that the union of two different esteems is the coming together of people of two different value-ratings and therefore of different goals and aspirations. Can two walk together, except they be agreed? so asked the Holy Bible. As an author of many fast-selling books, I have distilled the research works of these experts in Psychology into chapters, formulated relevant headlines for them in a way that they would make for easy reading and daily application. For example, there are red flags that would show young people in courtship to be wary of what they intend to go into; so are there ominous indications that certain courtships are genuine. A couple that is already in the troubled waters of marriage could use this book to identify their differences and see how to adjust, otherwise they endure the differences along. By the time you see the qualities of a healthy marriage, you would desire the bliss and wish to adjust to the standard as captured in a chapter of the book.
