Simon doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. He picks garbage for a living at Dead Hills State park, and in his free time plays in an Avant-garde dirt mall blues garage band called the Paramecium. He notices a girl in the audience who seems carved directly from the pulp of his dreams. She approaches him after the gig. Evidently she and him grew up directly across the street from each other, yet he has nary a recollection of ever meeting her. Her name is Myra Moody. She sees trouble on the horizon, and she prays for Simon. The unresolved prayers fall from the shroud clouds, littering up her lawn. Something seems amiss in Dead Hills Minnesota. Strange walkabouts roaming the streets, seemingly devoid of a soul. Insipid phantasmagoria bombards the periphery. The sky is dimpled and a strange swishing noise finds its way into Simon's subconscious. Strange elements of magic gracefully befall his bewildered spectrum, yet his heart hurts as though it is being sliced to shreds like a greasy steak about to be devoured by some mysterious larger hand at play.
