Be the Bridge: Closing the Gaps in a Divided World
One man's lifelong journey to bridge the divides that separate us across race, religion, family, and generations.
Dr. Bill Greenwood Jr. grew up on a tobacco farm in rural Virginia, unaware of the deep divides shaping his world. But when he witnessed the gap between townies and rurals in high school, he knew something had to change. At just 17, he ran for student body president and won, becoming the first rural student to break the townie stronghold.
That was only the beginning.
From marching with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to integrating a public pool (and surviving a brutal KKK attack), Greenwood has spent a lifetime building bridges. His journey spans over 25 global mission trips to Russia, Jamaica, England, and beyond, where he lived with locals, shared their work, and discovered that people everywhere want the same things: respect, opportunity, and love.
Greenwood opens up about his most painful failures too, including a devastating depression that forced him to confront his anger at God, and the heartbreaking journey of caring for his beloved wife Sheryl through dementia. He shows us that bridging gaps begins with facing our own.
But this isn't just his story. It's an invitation. Through the powerful transformations of those who traveled with him-a corporate professional who became a teacher, a teenager who discovered courage, a man who traded a mansion for freedom, you'll see how one trip, one conversation, one choice can change everything.
This is the story of one man who has made a difference in the lives of countless people. -Dr. Clyde Dupin
Greenwood doesn't just talk about change, he's lived it, failed at it, learned from it, and now shares his hard-won wisdom so you can too. The gaps are real, but so is the hope. Be the bridge.
