Twenty stories reveal the chaos and moral uncertainty of Spain's brutal second civil war, where Government Forces face off against the patriotic España Unida movement, while Catalan separatists and foreign powers exploit every opportunity for themselves. Soldiers, civilians, and covert operators are thrust into a modern conflict where advanced technology magnifies both heroism and horror, and every side fights for an ambiguous future.
Key Stories:
Baler. The Line: Elite scout Isabel carries a knife named after a famous siege where Spanish soldiers held an impossible position against overwhelming odds. When her unit is trapped and outnumbered, she must decide what holding the line means when the only choice is between fighting and dying.
The Iron Coffin: Beneath the Mediterranean, a submarine crew cut off from reliable command must choose between military orders and moral survival, in a war that may have already lost its meaning.
Los Hermanos: Carlos and Beto cross an ocean believing the patch on their shoulders makes them liberators, not invaders, brothers in arms, right up until the morning they're ordered to execute an old woman for buying insulin with the wrong currency.
Target Acquired: Alex levels up through a war fought entirely from a gaming chair, drone feeds and killcams turning distant soldiers into scores on a leaderboard, until he stops being sure whether he's playing a war or the war is playing him.
The Turncoat: Sergeant LluÃs Garrido carries his grandfather's warning that the loudest flag-wavers are the ones most afraid of being found out, through months of watching his own revolution eat itself.
Hope: Two families run north together because the road is safer that way, not because they'd have chosen each other, until the miles force them to decide whether strangers running from the same collapse are allies, or just two more things to protect.
Themes: Every story explores the moral crossroads faced when institutions collapse and old certainties fail. From drone operators forced to confront the real-world consequences of remote killing, to scouts refusing to abandon wounded comrades, these tales expose the raw humanity revealed when everything falls apart.
For Readers Who Enjoy: Character-driven military fiction, speculative warfare narratives, explorations of technology and ethics, and stories where the line between heroism and tragedy blurs in the fog of modern conflict.
In times of national collapse, the true war is always for the human soul.
