Balding is the story of a man telling his story of balding. The main character, Paul Bethel, moves around the country and does his very best to gain and not lose, yet he continues lose, and in the process finds that he has a deep desire to document his failures, all of which he believes can be traced back to his balding. Balding is the philosophy of losing, of loss, and of trying not to lose but losing again anyway. It is the striving of man and his pathetic efforts to be more than what he is, which is nothing.
