Bahrain is a comprehensive book that provides an in-depth look at the small island nation located in the Persian Gulf. Written by the Federal Research Division, the book covers a wide range of topics, including the history, geography, economy, politics, and culture of Bahrain. The book begins by exploring the history of Bahrain, from its ancient past to its modern-day status as a constitutional monarchy. It then delves into the geography of the country, including its climate, natural resources, and topography. Next, the book examines the economy of Bahrain, which is heavily dependent on oil and gas production. The authors discuss the challenges faced by the country's economy, including the impact of falling oil prices and the need for economic diversification. The book also covers the politics of Bahrain, including the role of the ruling Al Khalifa family, the country's political system, and the ongoing tensions between the Sunni ruling class and the Shia majority. Finally, the book explores the culture of Bahrain, including its rich artistic traditions, religious practices, and social customs. Overall, Bahrain is a comprehensive guide to this fascinating country and is an essential resource for anyone interested in learning more about the Middle East.Bahrain's relationship with Qatar is long-standing. After the Al Khalifa conquered Bahrain in 1783 from their base in Qatar, Bahrain became the Al Khalifa seat. Subsequently, tribal elements remaining in Qatar sought to assert their autonomy from the Al Khalifa. Thus, in the early nineteenth century, Qatar was the scene of several conflicts involving the Al Khalifa and their rivals, the Al Thani, as well as various outsiders, including Iranians, Omanis, Wahhabis, and Ottomans. When the British East India Company in 1820 signed the General Treaty of Peace with the shaykhs of the area designed to end piracy, the treaty considered Qatar a dependency of Bahrain. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
