Even though the original VW bus has been out of production for decades, still it's instantly recognized as an Object of Great Cultural Impact. Kids give it the peace sign. Grownups nod and smile in its presence. Latter day hippies hump the tail pipe while their dogs anoint the sacred tires. Like a good memory or a bad odor, the thing just won't go away.
