Its productions being executed in a masterly style of elegance and perfection, little, if any, inferior to those of our more senior manufactory, while the increasing demands made for their articles evince the just estimation in which they ares deservedly held. HOP TRADE. The Hop Market, which was first erected as a Work-house for the poor, situate almost in the centre of the city, is a large and regular pile of building, the interior of which forms an extensive quadrangle, surrounded by well-built Warehouses; the rents of which, under th- direction of the guardians of the respective parishes in the city, amounting to about 3.501. per annum, are applied to the laudable purpose of supporting the House of Industry. The Hop trade in this city is conducted on an extensive scale, and during the season, is the most considerable market in the kingdom for that essential article, three-fifths of the produce of the surrounding plantations being, on an average, brought here for sale. The number of pockets sold, for the last ten years, may tend to shew the regular supply this market affords. Years. Pockets. Years.
