This is a brief historical account of Eastwood Nottinghamshire. It forms one of a series with four other books: Brief Histories of Kimberley, Watnall, Awsworth and Newthorpe, all in the same part of the world and all by the same author. Eastwood has a very famous son, D H Lawrence, whose reputation is worldwide. There is a chapter here devoted to D H Lawrence but the book is not principally about him. The town he came from remains little known outside Nottinghamshire, and this is an attempt at redress. Eastwood has its own fascinating back story, going way back into the eras before coal exploitation and literature. This account starts in Roman times and follows through to the modern era, taking in Eastwood's, sometimes distant, nobility; farming; land ownership, educational development, religion, inns and other matters including potteries and a quite fascinating gasworks.
