Boyhood is a semi-autobiographical novel written by the acclaimed Russian author, Leo Tolstoy. It chronicles the life of a young boy named Nikolai Irtenev, who grows up in a wealthy Russian family during the mid-19th century. The novel begins with Nikolai's idyllic childhood, spent playing with his siblings and exploring the vast estate on which he lives. However, as he grows older, Nikolai becomes increasingly aware of the social and political issues that plague his country. He becomes disillusioned with the aristocratic lifestyle that he has been born into, and begins to question the morality of the society in which he lives. As Nikolai navigates the complexities of adolescence, he grapples with his own identity and struggles to find his place in the world. He falls in love with a young girl named Katya, but their relationship is fraught with obstacles, including the disapproval of his parents and the class divide between them.Throughout the novel, Tolstoy explores themes of love, class, morality, and the struggle for self-discovery. Boyhood is a poignant and introspective work that offers a unique insight into the mind of one of the greatest writers of all time. From the time of our arrival in Moscow, the change in my conception of objects, of persons, and of my connection with them became increasingly perceptible. When at my first meeting with Grandmamma, I saw her thin, wrinkled face and faded eyes, the mingled respect and fear with which she had hitherto inspired me gave place to compassion, and when, laying her cheek against Lubotshka's head, she sobbed as though she saw before her the corpse of her beloved daughter. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
