Under the fluorescent light in the identification rooms, the layers of Spektor's personality are gradually revealed - from a Soviet-Jewish child taught to stay away from trouble and unnecessary adventures; through his immigration to Israel and studies in Jerusalem during the Second Intifada; to the forty-year-old reserve officer for whom the days after the October 7 massacre are the most significant and traumatic period in all his years as a dentist.

In fluent, unapologetic prose studded with subtle macabre humor reserved for doctors in times of crisis, The Bottom Line describes firsthand and in intimate proximity the place where everything was done to restore names to the dead, as well as the struggle of military dentists coping with the reality into which they were reluctantly thrust in October 2023 and the psychological toll of what they experienced.

The Bottom Line is the literary debut of Dr. Vladi Dvoyris, a dentist and IDF Medical Corps reservist. The book is based on events he experienced during his reserve service in the IDF Casualty Identification Unit following the October 7, 2023 massacre.
