From the metropolitan world of Clermont and the Grand Lodge of France, to the Caribbean missions of Morin and Martin, to the manuscript transmissions of Francken, the Franco-American networks of Hacquet and Du Potet, the controversies surrounding Cerneau, and the later institutional narratives of Dalcho and Pike, these documents reveal a history shaped by jurisdiction, exile, succession, recognition, and rivalry.
This edition includes a substantial introduction examining the documentary and constitutional issues raised by the Bossu materials, including the problem of delegated authority, territorial sovereignty, regularity, and proper Masonic protocol. It also highlights the significance of the Morin-Martin succession question, the role of Saint-Domingue in the development of transatlantic Masonry, and the competing archival traditions that shaped later Scottish Rite historiography.
