Boots and Saddles is the fourth volume in the History in Words and Pictures Series, a collection of books that bring you back in time, in the words of those who were there, with visions of the world as they saw it. Written by Elizabeth B. Custer, wife of General George Armstrong Custer, Boots and Saddles begins with Custer's assignment to Fort Lincoln in Dakota Territory, which would ultimately lead to his death at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. We experience first-hand the life at a frontier garrison on the fringes of hostile Indian Territory. We follow the lead-up to the tragic battle as if we were there.
