Bolero, A Novel is the story of Miami attorney Natalia Armand whose life is transformed by an explosion and fire that burned one of her client's townhouses, the one rented to Alberto Maciel.
Months before, Natalia had learned that there was a connection between her and Alberto Maciel; however, she had lacked the courage to find out the truth about that connection. After the fire, she looks for clues that would help her understand Maciel's identity. She finds out that Maciel, a chemical engineer who began his profession in Nicaro, a Cuban nickel mining town, was accused of conspiracy to traffic drugs and that he was the prosecution's main witness against a cartel kingpin awaiting trial. She doesn't realize until it's too late that cartel henchmen are closely monitoring her because they don't want Maciel's death investigated or questioned.
