350 years of African Diaspora.
15 million enslaved Africans were transported across the Atlantic.
Only 1 slave trader paid with his life for this heinous crime.
This is his real story.

In 1820, the United States declared participation in the African Slave Trade a crime punishable by death. Yet New England sea captains, backed by New York investors, continued their grotesque commerce, delivering over a million enslaved Africans to plantations in Brazil and Cuba. Among countless atrocities spanning three and a half centuries of Transatlantic slave trafficking, one case stood apart-the only documented instance where the enslaved received justice.

This is the novelization of the script for a movie about the true-life story of Captain Nathaniel Gordon, the only slave trader to be ever convicted and hanged in 350 years of African Slavery. Chased in Brazil by Emperor D. Pedro II, years later he became a symbol of President Abraham Lincoln's fight to end the illegal trafficking of enslaved by the Americans.

To his true story, we add another real character, Mary Ann Shadd Cary, the first woman and African American to become a newspaper editor in North America. She played an important role in the escape of enslaved people from the South, in activism with her newspaper, and later in the recruitment of people of African Americans to fight in the American Civil War. We immerse ourselves in this story of iconic characters like Abraham Lincoln, Nathaniel Gordon, and D. Pedro II through her.
