The history of Blacks in Greer is mostly in the remembrance of our 70, 80, and 90 year old family and friends. Some of the history is scattered in various places; libraries, churches, mantels, and walls of current and former residents. The History Committee's effort was to record as much information through talks with some who are experiencing memory loss and those who just prefer not to remember certain events and times. We primarily documented samplings of the lives of Blacks in the Greer area. We found it fulfilling to recall fond memories and even unpleasant moments as we investigated the hardships, struggles, and achievements of an unconquerable people whom others wanted in the shadows.
