Over the past several months, I've given focused, prayerful attention to the Gospel of Matthew, shaping a guide that follows its portrait of Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah-King who fulfills Scripture and inaugurates the kingdom of heaven. My aim is to offer a structured, accessible resource that helps you read the text deeply, grasp its historical and Jewish context, and translate Jesus' teaching into everyday discipleship. This project grows from a desire to connect God's unchanging Word with the very real questions and transitions young adults face today.
This study is designed with young adults (roughly 18-30) in mind those stepping into independence, building careers, discerning relationships, and forming a durable identity. I envisioned this as a companion for seasons of uncertainty: a call to follow the King, to live the Sermon on the Mount when compromise feels easier, to practice Jesus' way with money, anger, anxiety, sexuality, and status. Yet Matthew's wisdom stretches far beyond one age group. Whether you're new to the Bible, returning to faith, or a seasoned student of Scripture, you'll find fresh courage in its message of fulfillment, holiness, and kingdom hope.
Matthew presents Jesus as Emmanuel God with us, the Son of David and Son of Abraham, whose life fulfills the Law and the Prophets. He gathers disciples, teaches with authority, confronts hypocrisy, shows compassion to the broken, and sends His followers on mission. Here we learn to live as a kingdom people: to practice secret righteousness (giving, praying, fasting), to seek first God's reign, to forgive as we've been forgiven, to discern wisely, to carry the cross, and to make disciples of all nations. Each chapter of this study will guide you with historical context, literary structure, reflective questions, and practical applications so that kingdom living becomes faithful presence not fearful retreat.
This study invites you to walk with Matthew as he lifts our eyes from daily pressures to our sure identity under Jesus' kingship: a people shaped by the Beatitudes, rooted in the Great Commandment, and commissioned by the Great Commission. My prayer is that your time in Matthew deepens your love for Scripture, strengthens your relationship with Jesus, and inspires you to live with resilient hope holy, humble, courageous, and kind.
