The Book of Kells is a book that was produced in the early Middle Ages, around the 9th century, by Irish monks. It is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Western art and is renowned for its intricate and colorful designs. This book contains the four Gospels of the New Testament and is written in Latin. The illustrations are a combination of Celtic and Christian art, depicting scenes from the Bible and various other stories. The Book of Kells is named after the Abbey of Kells in Ireland, where it was kept for centuries before being moved to Trinity College in Dublin in the 17th century. Edward Sullivan's 1920 book provides a comprehensive history of the Book of Kells, its creation, and its significance in Irish art and culture. It includes detailed descriptions and analysis of the artwork, as well as information on the techniques used to create it. This book is an essential resource for anyone interested in Irish art, history, or culture. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
