Biga Orationum Rectoralium presents two orations by Augustin von Balthasar, likely delivered in his capacity as a rector (or similar high-ranking official) at the University of Gryphiswald. The first oration, De Officiis Studiosorum Gryphiswaldensium, addresses the duties of the students of Gryphiswald. The second, De Privilegiis Eorundem, concerns the privileges of these same students.
This volume offers insights into the academic and social climate of a German university during Balthasar's time. Scholars of higher education, German history, and the history of rhetoric will find this a valuable primary source for understanding the expectations and rights of students in this historical context.
