BHAGAVAD GITA The Gospel of the Lord Shri Krishna Revised into Modern English by Paul Smith from the original Sanskrit by Shri Purohit Swami Introductions to Chapters by Charles Johnston The Bhagavad Gita is the single most famous poem in the ancient literature of India. It is equally celebrated as the highest spiritual philosophy and poetry. It constitutes the beginning and in a sense the end of any true knowledge of Indian mysticism. The translator refers to it as 'The Bible of India'. The Guardian said of this translation in 1935 when it was first published: A beautiful rendering, and gives the reader a clearer and more truthful impression of what the Indian reader takes it to mean than a literal translation would do. Illustrated. 326 pages. COMMENTS ON PAUL SMITH'S TRANSLATION OF HAFIZ'S 'DIVAN'. It is not a joke... the English version of ALL the ghazals of Hafiz is a great feat and of paramount importance. I am astonished. If he comes to Iran I will kiss the fingertips that wrote such a masterpiece inspired by the Creator of all. Dr. Mir Mohammad Taghavi (Dr. of Literature) Tehran. Superb translations. 99% Hafiz 1% Paul Smith. Ali Akbar Shapurzman, translator into Persian and knower of Hafiz's Divan off by heart.
