Inside these pages, a dominant bull charges through dark timber and stops one foot from Daniel's brother. More than one hundred elk flood a mountain meadow at dawn. Two brothers fire two muzzleloaders at the same elk and later discover both bullets entered through one hole. A devastating job loss eventually opens a door that leads Daniel to become a steward and part owner of a 3,000-acre Colorado ranch.
This is not an elk hunting manual, and it is not simply a collection of trophy stories.
It is about what happens during the years when the tag goes unfilled.
