Beside The Blackwater is a novel written by Norreys Jephson O'Conor and published in 1915. The story is set in Ireland and revolves around the life of a young girl named Eileen O'Connor. Eileen is the daughter of a wealthy landowner and lives in a grand estate beside the Blackwater River. She is a beautiful and kind-hearted girl who is loved by all who know her.The novel follows Eileen's life as she grows up and falls in love with a young man named Brian O'Neil. Brian is a poor farmer who lives on the other side of the river, and their love is forbidden by Eileen's father. Despite this, Eileen and Brian continue to meet in secret and plan to elope. However, their plans are disrupted by the outbreak of World War I, and Brian is called to serve in the British Army. Eileen is heartbroken but continues to wait for his return. Meanwhile, her father's estate is taken over by the British Army, and Eileen is forced to flee with her family to a small cottage on the outskirts of the estate.Beside The Blackwater is a story of love, loss, and the impact of war on ordinary people's lives. It is a poignant and beautifully written novel that captures the essence of Ireland's rural landscape and the struggles of its people during a time of great upheaval. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
