Bergson and Romantic Evolutionism: Two Lectures is a book written by Arthur Oncken Lovejoy and published in 1914. The book contains two lectures that explore the philosophical ideas of Henri Bergson and Romantic Evolutionism. The first lecture focuses on the French philosopher Henri Bergson and his theories on intuition and duration. Lovejoy discusses Bergson's concept of time and how it differs from the traditional understanding of time as a series of moments. He also examines Bergson's ideas on the nature of consciousness and the role of intuition in understanding reality. The second lecture explores the Romantic Evolutionism movement, which was a philosophical and literary movement that emerged in the late 19th century. Lovejoy discusses the ideas of several key figures in the movement, including Friedrich Nietzsche, Ernst Haeckel, and Herbert Spencer. He examines their views on evolution, nature, and the relationship between science and art.Overall, Bergson and Romantic Evolutionism: Two Lectures provides an insightful analysis of two important philosophical movements of the early 20th century. Lovejoy's lectures offer a clear and concise overview of the key ideas and concepts of these movements, making the book an excellent resource for students and scholars of philosophy and intellectual history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
